Guest post: DIY embellished fringe scarf

Most of you know that I'm in San Fransisco this week on business (and a little fun). And I am exciting to have some of my favorite ladies blogging for me while I am gone! Brittany Michelle is the incredibly talented gal behind The Sapphire Bee, a handmade jewelry and accessory company. She also has an adorable blog. Check out her adorable DIY scarf idea, which happens to be budget-friendly and perfect for autumn!

Accessorizing and completing your look comes in all sorts of ways. As a jewelry designer at The Sapphire Bee, I accessorize often but it might surprise people that I am not always dressed in jewels. To me, polishing off your look means your look is complete, from your hair to yours shoes, everything should go together! So today I am bringing you one of my favorite DIY projects. This crafty activity only requires an old shirt, some scissors and a little imagination, and it will help you polish off your fall look perfectly!

With fall right around the corner scarves are the perfect all accessory! The one I am going to show you how to make today is perfect for the fall transitional weather and will quickly enhance any outfit for hardly any money at all.

For this project you will need:, 1 old cotton shirt, Scissors, Beads or embellishments (optional), and Imagination

Step 1: Cut the shirt in half from the armhole to create a rectangular tube

2

Step 2: Cut vertical strips from the raw edge upwards -- remember that the long the slice the long the fringe will be

3

Step 3: Tug on the each strip to elongate it, and add your embellishments -- I used colorful wooden beads and large colored jump rings which I found on sale at my local craft store

And voila! A fun and bold scarf!! In this photo, I chose to wear mine almost as a necklace. I gathered it up in the back by tying it in a knot and wearing with a coordinating green tank! No matter how you choose to wear it, don't be afraid to flip it tie or even layer it!
