Guest post: adding plaid to your fall wardobe

Most of you know that I'm in San Fransisco this week on business (and a little fun). And I am exciting to have some of my favorite ladies blogging for me while I am gone! Beth is the lovely blogger behind The Fashionable Adventures of Bethie the Boo. Since we are on the topic of fall, Beth is here talking about the ever classic plaid for autumn!

Hello Coffee and Cardigans readers! I’m Beth, aka Bethie the Boo from the Fashionable Adventures of Bethie the Boo. I’m excited to be guest posting for Callie today, especially because she requested a post around one of my favorite topics – Fall! Fall is my favorite season, I love getting back into long sleeves, boots and cute sweaters. I love the crisp air, the smell of apples and pumpkins and Oktoberfest, Halloween and Thanksgiving festivities. Not to mention my birthday is in November, at the tail end of Fall, so how can I not love this season?

Fashion wise, I love so many of the trends I’m seeing this year, but the one I am most excited about is plaid! Plaid is everywhere this year! I’ve had a love of plaid for quite some time now - to the point where the joke was my favorite color was plaid! At any rate, it’s exciting to see it in full force this year and I have a few easy ways you can add a touch of this fun pattern to your wardrobe.

Patterned pants
Patterned pants are huge this year – animal print, floral print, polka dots, etc. Wearing plaid pants can be a fun way to incorporate two trends at once! I love this pair I thrifted last year – they have a lot of colors and are a lot of fun to wear. If these are a bit too loud for you, look for something a little more subtle like this other pair I have in a nice brown and orange – much more muted.

Plaid skirt
You can’t go wrong with a fun plaid skirt – and similar to the pants, you can get some that are a bit more on the “loud” side, or you can go more subtle. I have two different looks below in two different lengths that demonstrate this idea.

Finally, if you want to pull some plaid into your wardrobe in a much more subtle way – a fun handbag or purse is a great way to do it. I found a really cute one during the last ModCloth sale and I’m in love with it. They have quite a few others as well. You can go for a colorful one or look for something simple like a black and gray print.

Of course another way to pull some plaid into your wardrobe is with a fun plaid shirt – which sadly I do not have in my closet yet! Guess I will have to remedy that soon! What do you think about plaid?
